Deputy Chief Karl P. Gerhard currently serves as the Group 3rd Shift Commander. A professional Fire Fighter since 1990, he joined Nashua Fire Rescue in April, 1992. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2001, Captain in 2007, and to his current rank of Deputy Fire Chief in September, 2012.

Deputy Chief Gerhard holds multiple dive certifications and served as the Captain of the Nashua Fire Rescue Dive Team from 2009 until his promotion in 2012. He is also a member of the SMART Hazardous Materials Response Team as a certified Hazardous Materials Technician. In addition to numerous state and national certifications, he holds an Associate’s degree in Fire Science from New Hampshire Technical College in Laconia, NH. In 2016 he received his Bachelor's Degree in Public Service Management from Granite State College.

Deputy Gerhard currently oversees the Souhegan Mutual Aid Response Team (SMART - Hazardous Materials Team) as well as the Dive Team. Deputy Gerhard is Nashua Fire Rescue’s representative to the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). He is the department representative to Souhegan Mutual Fire Aid Association where he also serves on the executive board. Deputy Gerhard also serves as Nashua Fire Rescue’s representative to the New Hampshire Hazardous Material Collaborative where he serves as Vice Chair on the executive committee.
