On Saturday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., communities nationwide will participate in the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) Annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
This event provides the public an opportunity to prevent substance misuse and theft by eliminating expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs from our community. As a part of this national initiative, individuals can bring pills for disposal to any participating sites. The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles, or sharps, only pills or patches.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Unneeded prescription medication–those that are old, unwanted, or no longer needed – are highly susceptible to misuse. Rates of prescription drug misuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of misused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines, such as flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, both pose potential safety and health hazards.
The drop-off service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. To find the closest participating take back location, please visit https://takebackday.dea.gov/.
