On Thursday, October 3rd, 2019, Nashua Transit System welcomed 2 new electric hybrid buses to its fleet in a special ribbon cutting ceremony at BAE Systems’ Nashua Headquarters. Funding for these new, low-floor hybrid diesel/electric buses was obtained through competitive grant funds from the Federal Transit Administration’s Low-No Emissions program which supports the transition of the Nation’s bus fleet to energy efficient transit vehicles. Senator Maggie Hassan, State Senator Cindy Rosenwald, Congresswoman Annie Kuster, a representative from Senator Shaheen's office & City of Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess were on hand to welcome this newest addition of innovative technology to Nashua Transit System’s bus fleet.
Green Technology
Both vehicles are equipped with BAE Systems’ HybriDrive Series-E Propulsion Systems and next generation energy storage systems. These new vehicles will save more than 4000 gallons of fuel per year and avoid nearly 50 tons of CO2. That’s equal to planting a half-acre of forest each year! The new technology will compliment Nashua Transit System’s existing fleet of nine compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and will continue the City’s goal to significantly reduce emissions and create a more sustainable future for Nashua.

New Features!
In addition to the HybriDrive technology, the two new buses feature a new lime green color scheme, slip-resistant flooring and new seating. NTS is excited to share that one of the new vehicles is equipped with the Q'Straint Quantum wheelchair securement system. This new system gives our mobility passengers more independence by enabling them to secure themselves with the simple push of a button.
