WOMENS’ SUFFRAGE MOVEMENT - MAYOR’S VIRTUAL PROGRAM
Sunday, August 16, 2020
The 100th anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage Movement is here. Following 70-plus years of protests, marching, lobbying and effort by women leaders, the right to vote was secured for women across America when the 19th Amendment was ratified by 36 of then-48 United States on Aug. 18, 1920 and added to the U.S. Constitution a week later on Aug. 26, 1920.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess is marking this historic occasion with a virtual suffrage event on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m.
Featured guests include New Hampshire’s U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan, Jeanne Shaheen; State Senators Cindy Rosenwald and Melanie Levesque; Congresswoman Annie Kuster; Dr. Sindiso Mnisi Weeks; freelance writer and Telegraph columnist June Lemen; community activist, Sandy Belknap; journalist/author Quincy Whitney; readings and re-enactments from the Nashua Theater Guild and Actor Singers and music of the Suffrage movement performed by students the Nashua Community Music School.
