ADA Complementary Paratransit

The NTS ADA Complementary Paratransit service is a public transportation option for individuals with a condition that makes it difficult or impossible to ride the fixed route bus. This service is application based and provides origin-to-destination transportation in the City of Nashua within ¾ of a mile of existing non-commuter fixed route bus stops. Trips are reserved on a space available basis.

As required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), each public entity operating a fixed route bus system shall provide paratransit or other special services to individuals with disabilities that is comparable to the level of service provided to individuals who use the fixed route system.

Eligibility & Application Process

In order to be eligible for the NTS ADA Complementary Paratransit service, a person must have a physical and/or mental impairment that makes it difficult or impossible for them to use the NTS fixed route bus service. Additionally, passengers must apply and be approved for the service before they can schedule a trip. To apply for this service, please fill out the application form below and send it to the NTS admin office at 11 Riverside St. Nashua, NH 03062.

Service Hours

  • Monday - Friday: 6:00 AM - 10:35 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM - 10:35 PM

ADA requires that these services operate at the same time as our fixed route bus services.

Service is NOT available on Sundays or the following holidays: 

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day 

Fare

The fare for the ADA Complementary Paratransit service is $2.50 per trip. 

A trip is a one way ride from one origin to one destination. A return journey requires an additional fare to be paid. For example, to go to a doctor’s office and back, you would have to pay for two (2) trips.

Payment

Demand Response passengers may pay for trips with cash (exact change) or a Demand Response ticket. Tickets are only available for purchase in a ticket book, which contains a set of eight (8) tickets. Ticket books cost $20.00 and must be purchased no later than 4:30 PM the day before your trip. Riders can purchase tickets by contacting the NTS Mobility Manager at (603) 880-0100 ext. 4.

Scheduling a Trip

Trips on the ADA Complementary Paratransit service must be scheduled by 4:30 PM the day prior or up to two (2) weeks in advance of your desired trip date. To make your trip reservation, please call (603) 880-0100 ext. 2, during our office hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. 

On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, passengers may make trip requests by calling the number above and leaving a voicemail. If you request a reservation by voicemail, please call NTS again on the following business day to confirm your reservation. NTS is not liable for any reservations lost in voicemail due to events outside its control.

You will need to provide the following information when scheduling your trip:

  • Full name
  • Telephone number
  • Date of trip(s)
  • Pickup address and drop-off address
  • The times you would like to arrive and return from your destination.
  • Whether you use a mobility device (i.e. wheelchair, walker, cane, etc.).
  • Whether a guest, personal care assistant, and/or service animal* will be riding with you.
  • Whether you will need any assistance from the driver at your pick-up or drop-off location. 

*A service animal is a guide dog, signal dog, or other animal trained to work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Pets and emotional support animals are not allowed on NTS vehicles (eCFR:: 49 CFR 37.167). 

Canceling Trips

If you no longer require transportation, please call NTS as soon as possible, preferably at least one day before your trip. If you have to cancel the day of your trip, it is crucial that you contact us immediately. Failure to cancel a trip more than one (1) hour before your scheduled pick-up time or failing to meet the vehicle within five (5) minutes of its arrival is considered a “No-Show”. It is important that you cancel a trip you cannot make because other passengers miss the opportunity to ride. If you No-Show, you are leaving NTS with an empty seat that someone else could have used! 

If you miss your pick-up vehicle on the first leg of the trip, the remainder of your trips for the day will be canceled. If you still need transportation to get home, call dispatch at (603) 880-0100 ext. 2.

Rider Conduct & Information

Preparing for Pick-Up

When scheduling your trip, you will be provided with a 30 minute pick-up window. Please be ready to board the vehicle at the beginning of your pick up window. If you need assistance getting to the vehicle, please inform NTS when making your reservation.

On Board the Vehicle

NTS has a two (2) bag limit on passenger belongings. You MUST be in control of your belongings at all times! Drivers are not permitted to carry your bags or other property, and all personal belongings must not obstruct aisles and doorways, or prevent seats from being used. Do not bring hazardous materials such as auto batteries or gasoline on board the bus.

Registered passengers may travel with one (1) guest and one (1) personal care attendant (PCA). A personal care attendant (PCA) is an individual who must accompany a passenger on their trip. For an individual to qualify as an attendant, they must provide some form of assistance to the passenger. To designate someone as your PCA, notify NTS when applying for ADA Complementary Paratransit service. PCAs ride free. Guests are welcome to ride with you on a space available basis. If you are traveling with a guest, please inform NTS about them when scheduling your trip. An additional fare equal to what you pay is required. You and your guest must have the same origin, destination, and pick-up times.
