Special Collections

The Division of Public Works, Solid Waste Department provides special collections of metal items, oversize bulky items and tires (off rims) for residents that receive trash collection service.

COLLECTION OF LARGE METAL ITEMS, OVERSIZE BULKY WASTE, AND TIRES WILL BEGIN ON APRIL 21, 2008. PLEASE CALL THE SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT DURING THE WEEK OF APRIL 14, 2008 TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

The pickup is by APPOINTMENT ONLY, and requests must be received by Friday at 1p.m. for the following week’s list.

Any item for Special Pickup

• Must be on the list for that week;
• Must be at curbside by 6:45 am on Monday morning;
• Must be accessible – NOT on top of or behind a snowbank; and
• Will be picked up during the following week, between Monday and Saturday afternoon.

Large Metal Items: Appliances, hot water heaters, or the detachable frame from a sleep sofa, etc., are collected when pickup begins. Up to 3 items per year will be taken at no charge; the cost for extra items would be $25 each. With a valid residential permit, a resident may take the item directly to the Landfill for no disposal charge.

Oversize Bulky Waste: Acceptable waste which doesn’t fit in the cart - mattresses, some furniture, or bundles of brush - are collected separately when pickup begins . Up to 5 items per year will be taken at no charge; the cost for extra items would be $25 each. With a valid residential permit, a resident may take the item directly to the Landfill for no disposal charge.

Tires: Up to 4 tires per year may be called in for pickup at no charge when pickup begins. With a valid residential permit, a resident may take their items directly to the Landfill; NO commercial tires are accepted at curbside or at the Four Hills Landfill.
