New Residents

If you have never paid a registration permit fee to the City of Nashua, NH or have not done so for more than a couple of years, you are not established as a resident in our database and will not be able to register a vehicle without proof of residency. To do that, you'll need to bring in your current driver's license or other official photo ID and proof of your address in Nashua, NH.You can prove residency with items such as a utility bill or other official mail received by you at your address, a recently issued NH Driver's License with your correct address on the front, an official rental or lease agreement, or an official letter from the owner of the building.

Also as a reminder, if you have just moved to NH, you have 60 days to apply for a NH Driver's License Law (RSA 263:35).  If you do not apply for a NH Drivers License within 60 days you will not be allowed to renew your vehicle registration, or register any other vehicles. 

Renewal of a Vehicle Registered in a Different NH City/Town Last Year 
You must bring your current registration to our office to renew.  If you have lost your registration, you will need to get a Certified Duplicate Copy of your current registration before you will be able to renew. The fee for a certified Duplicate is $18.


Acceptable proof of Residency 

  • A valid New Hampshire Driver's License listing the correct address.
  • OR A valid New Hampshire, Or Out Of State Driver's License, along with one of the following (within 30 days).
  • A current Telephone bill, Utility bill or Other Official  Mail recently received at the correct address.
  • A Rent or Lease Agreement properly signed by the Owner or Management Company and the residents. 
  • A Notarized Residency Affidavit from the City Clerk's Office.
