The Community Development Division is responsible to guide the City of Nashua and its citizens in its pursuit of a clear vision for its future and to provide the framework and mechanisms for the City and the private sector to implement that vision.
Master plans express the vision that the citizens of the community have for Nashua’s future. Central to the development of master plans is broad based citizen involvement, which can include participatory workshops, focus group meetings, interviews, and field trips.
The Community Development Division is your first stop if you are planning to develop or expand in Nashua. Whether you are a resident adding a deck or a business expanding your office space, our well-educated and experienced professional Planning Department and Building Safety Department staff will provide technical expertise and help you to navigate the process.
The Division is committed to maintaining high standards for our natural and built environment. The Code Enforcement Department encourages neighborhood reinvestment, safe and healthy housing, and works to protect the environment, aesthetics and property values.
The Community Development Division works closely with parties interested in developing or redeveloping sites that are key to Nashua’s future. We look for opportunities to collaborate and can bring resources to the right project. The Office of Economic Development provides specialized services for businesses to locate and expand in Nashua. The Division’s Brownfields Program focuses on sites that have real or perceived contamination, providing technical expertise and site assessment assistance.
Neighborhoods are where we live and where we raise our families. Everyone deserves to live in a quality neighborhood that is safe, clean and cared for. The Urban Programs Department provides resources to improve living conditions and access to jobs and services, primarily for those of lower income and those with disabilities. The Division supports the Livable Walkable Communities program in the Tree and Ledge Streets neighborhoods. The Housing Improvement Program (HIP) offers funding assistance to qualified homeowners for capital repairs.
The City of Nashua has a wealth of natural resources that City leaders have had the foresight to protect. The Northwest Conservation Land was purchased in 2003 to protect the City’s drinking water supply. About 400 acres of land in the Lovewell’s Pond area is now owned by the City, almost 200 acres of which is permanently protected with a conservation easement held by the Society for the Protection of NH Forests. Nashua is part of the national Cities for Climate Protection Program, the goal of which is to reduce greenhouse gasses.
The Division’s aggressive efforts have resulted in federal grants for public projects that will add value to the City, such as the Riverfront Promenade, Rotary Common and the new Senior Activity Center.
